EVENT INFORMATION
As you walk through town, watch plein air artists paint outdoors. All over town you'll see artists painting scenes of Annapolis from Thursday morning through Saturday night.
Schedule of events:
Wednesday, 9/17: Artists arrive in Annapolis, welcome and registration for artists
Thursday, 9/18 - Saturday, 9/20: Paint Annapolis artists paint around town. MAPAPA members participate in all-member paint out (registration on-line required)
Saturday, 9/20 - 9:00-11:30 am: "Dueling Brushes" Paint Annapolis' version
of a quick draw competition. Artists will paint along side each other in a 2-hour competition. Find out who wins the "duel" when the whistle blows! Buy your favorite painting directly off the easel.
On-line
registration required for artists (except PA juried
artists/ founders). Artists paint in designated boundaries 9:00-11:00 am. Artwork is brought to City Dock area for exhibition
on easels, judging is at 11:30 am; prizes awarded
by juror : Mary Arthur
Saturday, 9/20: Lecture at St. Johns College, Mitchell Gallery, by PA
juror, Mark Karnes, 5:00 pm
Sunday, 9/21 - 2:00 - 3:30 pm: Collector's Preview - Enjoy champagne and light hors d'oeuvres at Maryland Hall while you get the first look at the finished paintings and a chance to buy your favorite painting. Tickets required (purchase in
advance online: $50/person, $75/couple- not applied
to art purchase) at Maryland Hall. Only checks/cash accepted at the door.
Sunday, 9/21 - 4:00 - 6:00 pm: Opening reception: open to the public. The public is invited to join the artists at Maryland Hall for the opening reception, exhibition, and continued sale of works painted throughout the weekend. No admission fee. Prizes awarded at 5:00 pm. Vote for your favorite painting - The Peoples Choice!

- Docent-led tours on Friday of the superb art collection housed at Government House. Limited space. First come, first serve. E-mail jwlawrence2@verizon.net to reserve a space.
- Art lecture on Saturday - Mark Karnes, judge for Paint Annapolis 2008 and a distinguished professor at MICA, will lecture at St. John's College at 5 p.m. at the Mitchell Gallery.
- Paint Annapolis, an annual event now in its 7th year, is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA), and with major support from the City of Annapolis.
