The Founding of Paint Annapolis
In 2002, local artist Lee Boynton called together friends and fellow painters and suggested the idea of showcasing the rich tradition of landscape painting in the Annapolis area. Local artists Sharon Littig, John Ebersberger, Bonnie Roth Anderson, Abigail McBride, and Baltimore artist William Wright joined Lee in putting together a one-day painting competition with the support of Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. That first year, 22 artists were invited to paint on a Saturday morning starting at dawn and deliver two works framed to Maryland Hall for an evening exhibition. The artists just hoped a few people would show up for the reception and not touch or lean up against a wet painting. To their surprise, the place was packed as over 250 voted for their favorite painting and the annual Paint Annapolis event was born.
