Entry Into the Paint Annapolis Competition
Maryland Hall will post an announcement for artists to submit three (3) digital images of their original plein air work completed in the past two years, plus the completed entry form found on MD Hall’s website that requests their personal information, details about the work entered, and the appropriate application fee. All entry materials and payment go to Maryland Hall for Creative Arts. The entry fee has been $35. Maryland Hall will provide the dates for accepting applications to the competition on their website.
Selection Process
Paint Annapolis is a juried competition presented by Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts with the support of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA), as well as the City of Annapolis and other sponsors. Forty (40) artists are selected by the juror to compete. In addition, the juror has selected 5 alternates (in order), in the event that some of the selected artists cannot participate.
Competition Rules
The plein air event will run for three days starting on a Wednesday evening for a check-in at Maryland Hall. Painting is allowed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The event ends on Sunday with an afternoon/evening reception and awards ceremony at Maryland Hall. Artists paint within designated boundaries during the three painting days from Thursday through Saturday. Artists turn in two completed, framed, and ready-to-hang artworks to Maryland Hall on Sunday morning. The primary rules for the competition are that all work must be done during the event painting days “en plein air” without the assistance of photographs, within the painting boundaries and within the completed, framed size limit of 36”x 42”.
Exhibition
The juried exhibition is held starting on the Sunday of the reception and concludes approximately 30 days later. The exhibit (with all works available for sale) is held in Maryland Hall’s two gallery spaces. All work (sold and unsold) must remain on display until the end of the exhibition. Artists must pick up unsold work at the end of the exhibition or make their own arrangements for shipping their work.
