Artist Guidelines
Dueling Brushes
Below is the summary of how Dueling Brushes operates. This topic will be updated in the future with information about how to register for this event when it is hosted again.
Eligibility: The Dueling Brushes competition is open to all artists, MAPAPA members and non-members. Paint Annapolis juried artists and MAPAPA founding artists participating in the Paint Annapolis event are also eligible to participate in Dueling Brushes.
Set Up: Artists may set up their equipment and choose their sites Saturday morning before the competition officially begins at 9 am. Artist will have 3 hours to complete a painting for exhibition and judging.
Exhibit and Judging: At 12 noon, all artists will bring their completed artwork along with their easels to the designated exhibit/judging area.
Prizes: Winners will be announced at 1 pm. With cash prizes: for first, second, and third place winners along with a cash prize for a Peoples' Choice Award. Three "Honorable Mention" awards will also be made. Artwork must be removed from the exhibit area after the awards ceremony.
Sale of Artwork: Each Dueling Brushes artwork must be clearly marked with a label provided to registered entrants. The label must list the price of the artwork.
Commissions: The event sponsor will take 25% commission on all sales. Our intent is to be able to provide credit card capability to encourage sales.
