DUELING BRUSHES

Date and Time: Saturday, September 25, 2010 – 9 am to 12 noon

Eligibility:  The Dueling Brushes competition is open to all artists, MAPAPA members and non-members. Paint Annapolis 2010 juried artists and MAPAPA founding artists participating in the Paint Annapolis 2010 event are also eligible to participate in Dueling Brushes.  All artists must register for the event on this site.

Registration: You must register by 5:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24th - click here to register. Last minute registrations will be taken at the tent next to Market House on Saturday morning from 8 to 8:45 am. Your registration fee entitles you to enter your work in the outdoor exhibit/judging event after the timed competition.

Registration fee is $25, last minute registration (after 5 pm on Friday, September 24--see above) is $35.

Check-in: All entrants must pick up their preprinted label for the Dueling Brushes event, available (except for last-minute registrants) at the Paint Annapolis tent next to the Market House at the City Dock on Friday, September 24th. Labels for last-minute registrants will be available at the tent on Saturday morning. Artists should fill in their name, title of work, medium, and price. This label is proof of registration and must be attached to work in order for it to be exhibited and judged.

Set Up: Artists may set up their equipment and choose their sites Saturday morning before the competition officially begins at 9 am.

Exhibit and Judging:  At 12 noon, all artists will bring their completed artwork along with their easels to the designated exhibit/judging area at Newman Street Park (corner of Newman Street and Compromise Street)..

Prizes: Winners will be announced at 1 pm.  With $1,600 in cash prizes: $500 for first, $350 for second, $250 for third and $500 for a Peoples' Choice Award. Three "Honorable Mention" awards will also be made. Artwork must be removed from the exhibit area after the awards ceremony. 

Sale of Artwork:  Each Dueling Brushes artwork must be clearly marked with a label provided to registered entrants. The label must list the price of the artwork.

Commissions: MAPAPA will take 25% commission on all sales. Our intent is to be able to provide credit card capability to encourage sales.
