2008 Events

Several Plein Air painting events and competitions are held each year. For a listing of Mid-Atlantic events, check our Event Calendar.

We have also added a list of National Painting Competitions. Members may want to take advantage of these opportunities to further their careers. National competitions listed are only major and established ones, chosen at our discretion. Click here for the list.

June 21 "Paint Out Plus & Bonus Nocturne" Join Lee Boynton for a free lecture and instruction at the Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons Island, MD on June 21 from 10 am - 10 pm. $7 museum admission required. Lee will give a morning lecture on drawing and painting boats at the boat shed which has a number of historic wooden boats. Bring sketching materials and a folding chair. After lunch break (bring your own lunch and snacks) paint around boat basin at CMM and participate in an afternoon critique. Bonus: Enjoy the full moon and join Lee for a nocturne "paint along" on Solomons Island.

River Farm, Alexandria, VA  - Paint Out May 17th and MAPAPA Show (July & August) for paintings created May 2007 & May 2008.  Application deadline: June 2.  Click here for details.

Paint Morgan County (West Virginia) is planning an exhibition of works to be held at the Ice House gallery in Berkeley Springs WV from June 6-July 6, 2008. The opening reception will be in conjunction with First Friday Gallery Walk, Friday June 6, 2008.

Work begun any time after May 31, 2007, and completed by June 1, 2008, is eligible. Entries will be reviewed beginning February 15, 2008. Click here to download details.
