Plein Air Kitty Included "Nitemare or Reality," the Plein Air Kitty cartoon by John Ebersberger for MAPAPA's July (03) newsletter, caught Tom Chalkley's eye. He called it, "beautifully conceived and drawn...a succinct statement of your legitimate case against the art establishment. A real gem." Tom Chalkley, editorial cartoonist/writer for Baltimore's City Paper, is the curator for the upcoming exhibit, "Reading Pictures/Looking at Words: The Art of Comics," to be held at Park School in Baltimore, Maryland. Chalkley has included this "Plein Air Kitty" cartoon in the show. The exhibition will feature work by Bill Griffith, of "Zippy the Pinhead" fame; Peter Kuper, who draws "Spy vs. Spy" for Mad Magazine; and Art Spiegleman, author of the cartoon/novel, "Maus". Among the dozen other exhibiting artists are Mike Lane and KAL, both editorial cartoonists for the Baltimore Sun. The exhibit's opening reception is Thursday evening, December 11th (2003) from 4:00-6:00 pm. There will be a gallery talk at 4:30. The show runs until February 8th, 2004. February 6-8th is "Comix Weekend" in Baltimore, with concurrent exhibition openings at MICA, UMBC, and the Creative Alliance, the newly renovated Patterson Theatre, in Patterson Park. For Information, call Park School at (410) 330-7070. Park School is located at 2425 Old Court Rd. in Brooklandville, a suburb of Baltimore. |
